Roots of Divinity is a project that encompasses the pre-production process of a hybrid 2D and 3D animated series, which aims to explore the use of composition, light, and color to create a unique animated narrative within its field.
This project has been a personal challenge, as it has been especially meaningful to me. Drawing on my knowledge, I have always approached concept art and character design from a visual intuition, and this work has forced me to look at it in a different way. How can the duality of a character be shown beyond a range of intense emotions? How can the coldness of a name be expressed from a single point of view? How can light and color show that a character has reached a point of no return?
I wanted to pay homage to the classics of painting and, at the same time, to the great exponents of modern animation, in order to give new meaning to character design. Not limiting it to a turnaround, but taking it all the way to production, where it will not only be expressions or gestures that define it, but the light that will always accompany it—a light as versatile and changing as the character itself.
